Subject: Minutes from the October 12, 2009 Chapter Meeting:
Officers in attendance: Bailey Coen, Cam Tucker, Jordan Godbey, Kayla Carter, Rae Fazenbaker, and Dacie Bridge
The Chapter meeting was held in 101 Woodburn Hall to discuss upcoming events sponsored by the Chapter.
1. Points: For the Fall 09 semester, members will be required to have 4 activity points and 1 meeting point. Members participating in committee meetings will also receive points for attendance. Points will count towards receiving a Chapter Scholarship. The member with the most points this semester will receive a scholarship during the spring semester.
2. Trunk or Treat. We will be placing a car in the Annual Trunk or Treat on Monday October 26th. The event will be held at 6 pm on the band practice field. Participating members are asked to arrive between 5 and 5:30 to help set up the car. Members who donate 2 bags of candy will receive 1 activity point and members who also sign up to help at the event will receive 1 activity point. Bags of candy can be dropped off at Bob Kent’s office, Rm 164 in the Student Organizations Office Wing in the Moutainlair. When donating bags of candy, please attach your name so you can get your points. Costumes are not required for helping out during the event, but a majority of other people and group do dress. A sign-up sheet was passed around at the meeting to show who would like to help at the event. If interested please email bcoen@mix.wvu.edu
3. Ronald McDonald House Dinner. The Chapter will be cooking dinner at the Ronald McDonald house on Thursday October 29th. The menu will consist of chili, cornbread, salad, and desserts. Members have been asked to volunteer for one of two time slots: 4-5:30 pm or 5:30-7:00 (or they can volunteer for both time slots). Preparation will begin at 4 pm with dinner being served at 5 pm. Following dinner, members will be asked to help clean up. A sign-up sheet was passed around at the meeting asking for volunteers and to sign up to bring food for the dinner. If anyone is interested in helping and didn’t get a chance to sign up please email Rae Fazenbaker at rfazenba@mix.wvu.edu . Members will receive a point for volunteering to work the dinner as well as a point for donating food.
4. Make a Difference Day. The Chapter will be helping out with Make a Difference Day in Morgantown on Saturday October 31st from 12-4 pm. Members can sign up for one of two time slots: 12-2 or 2-4 pm (or can sign up for both time slots.) The Chapter will be assigned to 1 of 15 locations around Morgantown, which has yet to be determined. An email will be sent out with the details when they become available. Members participating will receive one point. A sign up sheet was passed around at the meeting, and if anyone is interested in helping and didn’t sign up, please contact Kayla Carter at kcarter6@mix.wvu.edu .
5. Pumpkin Carving/Painting Social. The Chapter will be hosting a pumpkin carving/painting social on Thursday October 22nd at 6:30. Following carving and painting we will take the pumpkins outside to light them. We will meet around Woodburn Hall. Room and event details will follow in an email.
6. WCLG Food Drive. As part of our Gold Standards requirement, we have challenged NSCS to a food drive. Members are asked to donate 10 non-perishable items for 1 point. Food can be dropped off at Bob Kent’s office in Rm 164 in the Student Orgs Office. Please place donated items in a bag with your name so the appropriate points can be awarded. Dates for the food drive are yet to be determined but will be posted. Help us beat NSCS!
7. Rosenbaum Family House. We will be accepting donations for items for the Rosenbaum Family House. Points will be awarded based on the types of items donated. A list of items will be placed on the campus website, or you can email golden key at goldenkey@mail.wvu.edu to get a list. A box will be placed at Bob Kent’s Office, Rm 164 in the Student Orgs office. Please place items in a bag with your name so the appropriate points can be awarded. Members will receive an email with the points they were awarded.
8. Relay for Life. The Chapter will be establishing a team for Relay for Life in April. A sign up sheet was passed around asking for a team captain and for team members. Contact Rae Fazenbaker at rfazenb@mix.wvu.edu if you would like to sign up for the team or would like to be a captain.
9. Book Drive. A possible book drive was discussed at the meeting. Bob Kent will be checking with Barnes and Noble to see if the Chapter is able to sponsor this event. Details will follow.
10. Fundraisers. Kayla Carter discussed ideas for possible fundraisers which included selling hot chocolate outside of the Mt. Lair, a possible t-shirt sale, and raffle for a Valentine’s Day Gift Basket. Any ideas for fundraisers can be submitted to Kayla Carter at kcarter6@mix.wvu.edu .
